TheApothecaryShop.com is the first compounding pharmacy to be granted approval.

As a market driver and a market leader, The Apothecary Shops is always looking for ways to show our commitment to the pharmacy industry. Our new LegitScript web site verification continues to let the public know that The Apothecary Shops ranks among the best for quality and safety with Internet prescription sales

The Apothecary Shops, the foremost chain of independent, full-service pharmacies has received web-site verification approval from LegitScript, a leading consumer advocacy organization whose standards for pharmacy web-site safety and compliance are designed to support health care consumers and organizations seeking to do business with legitimate online pharmacies.

According to government statistics, prescription drug abuse is now the nation's second-most serious drug problem. There are literally thousands of pharmacy websites that purport to be legitimate, but violate federal or state laws or accepted standards of medical and pharmacy practice.

LegitScript standards for verification of Internet pharmacies are recognized by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. Through such standards, LegitScript assists consumers and businesses in determining which Internet pharmacy web sites operate safely and in compliance with Federal and state laws and regulations, as well as with accepted medical principles and ethics.

"LegitScript is pleased to recognize The Apothecary Shops' web site as a safe, legitimate pharmacy web site," John Horton, LegitScript President, said. "With the proliferation of rogue pharmacy web sites, it is important that consumers be given a means to tell the difference."

The Apothecary Shops has 14 dispensing pharmacies in Arizona, Utah, Nevada and Ohio. In order to display LegitScript's Seal of Approval, the company requires pharmacies engage solely or primarily in the business of pharmacy and if prescription compounding is more than 10 percent of the company's business, they be accredited by the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB). The Apothecary Shops is proud to have one of the first pharmacies in the United States to receive the PCAB designation -- a new system of standards created by some of the leading organizations in pharmacy.

"As a market driver and a market leader, The Apothecary Shops is always looking for ways to show our commitment to the pharmacy industry. Our new LegitScript web site verification continues to let the public know that The Apothecary Shops ranks among the best for quality and safety with Internet prescription sales," Dr. John Musil, Pharm.D., FACA, Owner and CEO of The Apothecary Shops, said.

LegitScript is free to consumers and pharmacies and includes a search engine allowing users to determine whether an online pharmacy meets standards of quality and safe business practices.

LegitScript.com's search engine currently contains information about more than 8,000 pharmacy web sites. Of those, 54 are identified as meeting LegitScript standards, 688 are under review and approximately 7,500 are listed as unapproved or rogue pharmacy web sites.
