San Diego-Area Attorney Gives Staff a Helping Hand to Combat Soaring Gas Prices

Encinitas, CA (Lexis Nexis/PRWEB ) July 15, 2008 -- American commuters are reeling from record gasoline prices, but a senior partner of one San Diego law firm has taken the extraordinary step of easing that burden for his employees by digging into his own pocket.

David Peters, partner in the Encinitas, Calif.-based law firm Peters & Freedman, L.L.P., handed out $5,000 in cash to 25 workers at his firm this summer. Peter's random act of generosity was prompted by a simple stroll by the break room one day.

"I was passing by and overheard one of our employees, a single mom, talking to another staff member about how she could barely afford to drive to work anymore because of how much more money it was taking to fill up her gas tank this summer," said Peters. "I just decided to do something about it and to show these folks that we care about them and want to help ease their burden a little."

Peters promptly took $5,000 of his own money and divided it up among 25 staff members based on how far each employee had to travel to get to the office. Checks ranged from $150 to $500. Some employees were so touched by the gesture that they were on the verge of tears.

"We really value the people in this law firm and I feel it's important to show them in meaningful ways that we genuinely care about their well-being and their ability to take care of their families," said Peters. "They give me their best effort when times are good, so this is a small way for me to return that loyalty when times are a little tougher."
