The result is an improved Odeo experience that still retains what the original team envisioned, while adding the most requested features of video and enhanced search.

As one of the original podcast destination sites, Odeo today announced the relaunch of its flagship website, http://odeo.com. Completely redesigned and managed under a new development team, Odeo now features millions of online syndicated audio and video episodes aggregated from thousands of websites. Users can search and discover over 500,000 channels, browse by category or keywords, subscribe to content, create playlists and get custom recommendations.

"With so many sources of syndicated content online, our team set out to create a simplified media experience that really helps users find and manage quality content,” said Rick Arturo, President of Sonic Mountain, the parent company of Odeo. "The result is an improved Odeo experience that still retains what the original team envisioned, while adding the most requested features of video and enhanced search."

Features include:

  •      Search & explore over 500,000 channels with millions of audio & video episodes
  •      Browse by category or by keyword tags
  •      Subscribe to channels & get notified when new episodes are published
  •      Rate & review content
  •      Collect favorites & create playlists
  •      Create a profile page & connect with friends
  •      Get recommendations & discover new and relevant content
  •      Share content via email or embed into external sites & social networks

"I'm really excited to see this relaunch of Odeo," said Evan Williams, co-founder of Twitter, and former founder of both Odeo and Blogger. "The new team has done a fantastic job of re-imagining how to offer a great user experience to a wide variety of interesting content."

Odeo also announced strategic partnerships with leading online media networks including Blip.tv, NextNewNetworks and Revision3 to provide distribution and promotions for a variety of syndicated media. Through an innovative partnership with Boston-based Matchmine.com, Odeo has also joined the new MatchKey network of sites to provide better recommendations across a wide variety of content.

Odeo will continue to add features such as synchronization with mobile devices, streamlined embedding of audio and video for social networks plus an upgraded set of recording tools through Odeo Studio. “We’ve begun migration of Odeo’s popular free tool for podcast producers, Odeo Studio, over to the new site,” said Eric Rupert, Chief Operations Officer. “The recording function will be part of a larger suite of tools that allow subscribers to submit audio and video comments back to producers.”
