The City and County of Denver, in partnership with ReDirect Guide, has announced the Green Frontier Fest, scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 24 on the eve of the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Green Frontier Fest, a celebration of everyday positive choices that individuals, families and organizations can make now to address global challenges, will feature a full spectrum of sustainable options from cutting-edge renewable technologies to solutions that can be implemented in the home.

Held outdoor at Sculpture Park of the Denver Performing Arts Complex Park, the Green Frontier Fest invites residents and visitors to enjoy, among other activities, interactive and educational exhibits, a farmers market of local and organic produce, a children's area, eco-carnival games, music, entertainment and special presentations by Van Jones and other guest speakers.

"Denver, the Front Range and Colorado are naturally, culturally and intellectually well positioned to be the U.S. epicenter for a global new energy and sustainable future," said Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. "The City is committed through the leadership provided by our Greenprint Denver program to enhance and accelerate the green ethic of many of our citizens. With the Green Frontier Fest we are excited to showcase our existing capacity and accomplishments."

The Mayor added, "The Fest is also an expression of our community's collaborative effort to set a new local green standard for the Democratic National Convention and for future conventions here and elsewhere."

In addition to Sunday's Green Frontier Fest, Sculpture Park will be the home of the "New Energy Station" from Aug. 24 through Aug. 28. The New Energy Station will showcase Denver and Colorado's new energy innovations through a number of loaned displays and applications that highlight environmentally-responsible energy technologies and practices.

Xcel Energy, Colorado's largest electric and natural gas utility, also will be participating in educational efforts for the Green Frontier Fest and New Energy Station. The company will feature the "SmartGridCity Experience," a mobile exhibit featuring interactive, hands-on displays designed to educate and inform customers about the potential for the electric grid of the future. Xcel Energy also plans to have on display the 2007 University of Colorado Solar Decathlon House. Xcel Energy sponsored the innovative zero-energy home designed and built by students and eventually will use it as a technology center to educate the public about the advantages of solar power.

Other highlights include a 140-foot long, 17 ton wind turbine blade, and a bike station that will be powered by a mobile solar unit loaned by Worldwater & Solar Technologies Corporation.

"The Green Frontier Fest and New Energy Station will provide residents and visitors with environmentally friendly options to live green and healthy, ultimately saving money and resources," said Sarah Wells, Associate Publisher of ReDirect Guide. "The Fest is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for green businesses to be involved with the momentum and attention around the Democratic National Convention."

Both the Green Frontier Fest and New Energy Station are free to attend with engaging programs and activities for all ages. Both are open 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on their respective days.
