Premier Power Pushes 1.2mw Solar Project Into the Ground

When enXco, an EDF Energies Nouvelles Company, tasked Premier Power Renewable Energy, Inc. (Premier Power), one of the largest integrators of small to large-scale solar electric systems, with installing a 1.2-megawatt (MW) ground mount solar electric system in only six weeks (a project that would normally take several months), a potential lengthy installation issue arose. How can Premier Power dig more than 2,300 holes, pour concrete and set as many support posts in such a short time? For Premier Power the answer was simple, "You don't dig, you don't pour, you vibrate and push."

In keeping with the environmental benefits of the project itself, not only was Premier Power able to complete the installation quickly, its method of pushing the poles into the ground, a technique normally associated with construction of highway safety rails, also avoids the environmental impact injecting from 170 to 340 tons of cement into the ground were it to mount the poles using traditional methods. If necessary, Premier Power can set cement ballasts above ground should a post require additional support. At the end of the project's life, expected to be beyond 20 years, the ballasts can be lifted and a reverse process can pull the poles out for re-use, leaving the land in its original, pre-installation state.
