Paquin Healthcare Companies, Inc. today announced that they will implement the North Shore-LIJ Health System’s comprehensive consumer healthcare retail initiative. The New York-based health system is one of the nation’s largest, serving a market area of 5.2 million people in Long Island, Staten Island and Queens.

“We are very excited to enter into this relationship with the North Shore-LIJ System,” stated Tony Paquin, CEO of Paquin Healthcare. “They have a very strong reputation and presence in one of the most densely populated areas in the country and will benefit greatly from launching consumer healthcare retail throughout their system.”

The health system consists of 15 hospitals, 17 long-term care facilities, a medical research institute, three trauma centers, five home health agencies, a hospice network and dozens of outpatient centers.

“Providing healthcare retail services and products is increasingly important to meeting the needs of our communities,” said Charles Trunz, President of North Shore Healthcare Enterprises, a wholly owned healthcare emerging businesses firm created by the North Shore-LIJ Health System to pursue high-value enterprises. “The mission of our partnership with Paquin Healthcare is to service this need by offering healthcare products within our hospitals, through designated retail outlets, and a North Shore-LIJ-branded ecommerce website.”

North Shore LIJ is the nation’s third-largest non-profit, secular healthcare system based on number of beds. In 2007, its facilities delivered 22,400 babies, treated 239,400 inpatients and performed 111,900 ambulatory surgeries. It was also the nation’s first health system to receive the Joint Commission’s Codman Award.

As part of a comprehensive retail initiative, Paquin will provide North Shore-LIJ with consulting and implementation services for brick and mortar retail stores throughout their healthcare facilities. Paquin will also deploy a hospital-branded customer loyalty program and a North Shore-LIJ-branded ecommerce website that will offer thousands of high-quality health and wellness products.
