AfterOurs Urgent Care has contracted with CyraCom, an on demand provider of over-the-phone interpretation and document translation services, to offer medical interpretation to their patients in more than 150 different languages. "AfterOurs was founded with the goal of improving quality, affordable access to healthcare. We realized that in order to improve access for everyone, we needed the ability to communicate in more than one language," said Chris Rehm, Executive Director for AfterOurs.
With the touch of a button, AfterOurs physicians and patients can be connected through a dual headset device to one of CyraCom's interpreters. Most calls take less than 15 seconds to connect, and a third person, such as a spouse or parent can be added to a call at a patient's or guardian's request. The patient's language can either be identified through the use of a language chart or assistance from a CyraCom representative.
"We've begun the process of duplicating our medical forms into Spanish, and have included information on our Website for Spanish speaking patients as well, " said Mr. Rehm. "We only hope that patients who are Limited English Proficient will trust us enough to give our urgent care services a try."
