Having debuted in 1952, the Les Paul Standard was Gibson's first solidbody guitar and helped pave the way for future solidbodies. The latest innovations were released July 1 and are available for preorder. The Gibson 2008 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar has a hand-carved AA plain maple top and its big brother the Gibson 2008 Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar has a hand-carved figured maple top. The necks on both guitars are crafted from a single piece of mahogany functioning as a single unit with the body. Both instruments have two BurstBucker Pro pickups containing Alnico V magnets wound to vintage specs and with wax potting deliver original "Patent Applied For" tone, and a matched chambered mahogany back outlined with single-ply binding. Their asymmetrical shape is lauded as the most comfortable neck offered on a Les Paul Standard Guitar.
