Hokey Pokey Ice Creams recently invited children from the NGO Children's Hope India to their flagship lounge in Bandra. The event, aimed at creating awareness for the work of the charity, had the Sheriff of Mumbai City, Dr. Indu Shahani as the Guest of Honor. Also present were Hokey Pokey Directors Rohan Mirchandani, Milap Shah and Uday Thakkar as well as many children and delegates from Children's Hope India.
Children's Hope India, Inc. was launched in 1992 by a group of professional women in New York who wanted to share their blessings and good fortune with thousands of disadvantaged children in India. What started with $1000 supporting one preschool project for 25 children has grown into over 25 projects reaching out to 50,000. Since its inception, Children's Hope has raised over $1 million to support a multitude of projects across several major cities in India, providing education, food, shelter, and health services to thousands of children.
Dr. Shahani is known for her commitment to uplifting the quality of life for citizens of the city. On assuming charge as Sheriff, she immediately launched the women's helpline 1298 with the support of 20 leading NGO's, promoted blood donations for the citizens, harnessed student energy for Municipal Corporations, Clean Up Mumbai campaigns, where student volunteers would blow the Sheriffs whistle to keep Mumbai city clean, initiated the much needed green Mumbai project and provided for clean drinking water in the Mumbai district jail.
"I am happy that Hokey Pokey is setting up dessert lounges in Mumbai," said Dr. Shahani. "I am also glad that the organization is aware of its social responsibilities and is sharing the ice creams with underprivileged children free of cost."
"The inception of our chain of Hokey Pokey Dessert Lounges has met with welcome success in Mumbai. The concept of adding "mix-ins" to create your own unique dessert has been a popular one, and visitors to our lounges seem delighted in trying their hand at making their creations," said Rohan Mirchandani, Director Corporate Affairs, Ross Group.
