An Image is Worth 1000 Vertices: OpenGL Bootcamp at Big Nerd Ranch October 20-24, 2008

Atlanta, GA (Vocus/PRWEB ) July 22, 2008 -- Big Nerd Ranch announces OpenGL Bootcamp October 20-24, 2008. OpenGL Bootcamp is an intensive 5-day training course that will arm you with the knowledge to make your 2D and 3D visualizations fly!

OpenGL, the industry standard for 2D and 3D graphic visualizations, allows developers to work smarter, not harder. OpenGL Bootcamp at the Big Nerd Ranch allows developers to learn it even faster.

Big Nerd Ranch, Inc., premier provider of intensive, week-long training classes for programmers, system administrators and web developers, has provided high quality OpenGL training for years, with the OpenGL class becoming one the Big Nerd Ranch's keystone classes. The Oct. 20-24 OpenGL Bootcamp is ideally suited for experienced programmers seeking to enhance their applications with high quality visualizations and Big Nerd Ranch graduates wanting to further develop their programming skills by adding graphic development training.

No other graphic visualization development environment comes close to OpenGL's scalability, portability and cross-platform functionality. Its intuitive design and rational command structure creates greater efficiency and makes it the perfect application programming interface (API) for high quality, interactive graphic visualizations in the development of dynamic applications. OpenGL applications can be used on a variety of systems, from PCs and supercomputers, to consumer electronics, to the emerging mobile markets.

"One of the things I routinely hear from students, is how surprised they are that after just five days they are actually able to produce complex OpenGL visualizations," commented award-winning OpenGL developer and instructor Rocco Bowling. "If you are willing to do the work in those five days, once you have the knowledge the OpenGL training class provides, the only thing limiting you development potential is your own imagination."

Like most of the classes offered at the Big Nerd Ranch, students attending the OpenGL training class are immediately thrust into creating a simple application. As the class progresses, and new ideas are introduced, that original application begins to grow in complexity. In the five days of the class, students will:

- Understand OpenGL architecture and a comparison of time-based animation vs. the traditional frame-based animation
- Explore 3D image development, with a discussion on hidden surface removal and common pitfalls
- Learn about textures and how to animate them and display them using QuickTime
- Know how and when to use colors, lighting and blending
- Optimize static and dynamic data
- Explore techniques that improve the user interaction with the visualization
- Understand the ARB vertex and fragment programming models, font rendering, and vertex and fragment shaders

Students attending the class will receive a copy of the Red Book (OpenGL Programming Guide: The Official Guide to Learning OpenGL Version 2) which serves as the course textbook. To ensure the best class outcomes, OpenGL Bootcamp students should have experience in a procedural programming language like C and have a basic understanding of trigonometry and vector mathematics.

The Big Nerd Ranch incorporates intensive training classes for Unix and Mac OS X programmers in a retreat setting outside Atlanta, GA. Class price of $3500 includes lodging, all meals, original instruction materials, 24-hour lab access, and transportation to and from the Atlanta airport. Students are encouraged to bring independent projects to class, allowing for input from classmates and individual instructor attention.
