LuckyCal Inc. today announced it is a recipient of Facebook's fbFund. The announcement was made today at f8, Facebook's annual developers' conference, and helps deliver on Facebook's mission to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected.

"LuckyCal anticipates the things you want to do - see your favorite team, meet up with out-of-town friends, or network with a large group of business contacts - and makes it easier to get them done," says Sanjay Vakil, Ph.D., LuckyCal founder. Connect to LuckyCal through Facebook, and you'll be notified if your college buddy will be traveling to Vegas at the same time you are. Give LuckyCal access to your iTunes library, and the next time you visit New York it will inform you if any of your favorite bands are playing there.

"Our goal is to make this as useful for the business traveler as the general consumer," says Vakil. To that end, LuckyCal fully supports popular calendar clients like Outlook, allowing you to import your schedule as well as thousands of prospective or current clients so that you'll automatically be reminded who to call when you're next on the west coast.

David Rose, Founder of Ambient Devices and CEO of RxVitality, is enthusiastic about the application. "Business travel is expensive and unpleasant these days - if you can make it that much more productive, and have more fun while you're doing it - it improves your bottom line, improves morale, and is good for the environment - it's a win for everyone."

One of LuckyCal's most compelling features maps out all of your contacts, and events that you might be interested in, for upcoming trips. You can see where you're going to be and determine who else will be near by during the same time period, making it easy to decide which days will be the most productive and fun to travel on. LuckyCal also allows you to buy tickets to events and book flights and hotels, all from within your calendar. LuckyCal doesn't require you to use a new calendar or scheduling system. Because LuckyCal supports major existing scheduling systems you don't have to reenter or update any of your information.

In 2007, Facebook launched Facebook Platform, a development platform that enables developers and entrepreneurs to integrate with Facebook and create meaningful social experiences for millions of users. With more than 90 million active users Facebook provides unparalleled potential for applications and the opportunity to build a business that is highly relevant to people's lives.

Vakil received his Ph.D. from MIT and previously co-founded Newton-based PatientKeeper, a healthcare IT company which extends clinical and administrative information from the hospital mainframe to the handhelds and desktops of physicians and other healthcare professionals. Vakil is joined by a small team of experienced engineers with over seventy collective years in the IT industry.
