Toledo, Ohio (PRWEB) August 1, 2008
The University of Toledo will be installing a new 23,000 square foot athletic floor utilizing a state-of-the-art system from Connor Sports Flooring.
Construction of the maple hardwood court is expected to begin in August, 2008, with completion prior to the start of the 2008-09 University of Toledo season, said Ron Cerny, president and CEO of Connor Sport Court International.
The system, utilizing Rezill Channel™, one of Connor's premier subfloor systems, will be installed in the performance court area of U.T.'s Savage Hall. "Rezill Channel provides outstanding resiliency and stability for the athletes who are playing on it, resulting in better performance and greater safety," said Cerny.
Connor's Midwest Regional Manager, Ron Dudzik, is working with Rick Hacias and Bruce Heldt of Kiefer Specialty Flooring to facilitate planning and construction of the system.
Since a new radiant heating system is being installed underneath the floor at Savage Hall, Connor's Rezill Channel sub-floor offers a perfect solution, said Dudzik. This continuous steel channel sub-floor features panels that can move independently as the floor expands and contracts. The spacing of the channels is able to accommodate the configuration of the heating system.
Its design features the use of pads to allow an open air flow without heating being encumbered.
The pads are made from the same material found in outdoor running tracks and are built to withstand the most severe climatic conditions, Dudzik said.
Connor Sport Court is a member of the Maple Flooring Manufacturing Association and adheres to the strict environmental guidelines of that organization. Hardwood used in the courts is from a renewable resource, with the U.S. growing six times more hardwood than are harvested each year.
The University of Toledo has a proud history in basketball, fielding its first team in 1915. U.T. won seven Mid-American Conference titles and four MAC West Division titles, (1998-99, 1999-2000, 2004-05 and 2006-07).
The university posted 26 consecutive winning seasons from 1959 to 1984, and has won 20 or more games in a season eighteen times, including three 20-win seasons in 2000-01 (22-11), 2003-04 (20-11) and 2005-06 (20-11).
