I'm also excited about opening new avenues that support my efforts to encourage kids to play the game of baseball. The number of African American Major League players has dramatically decreased over the last 10 years, and we're hoping that projects such as this will reverse that trend and get more minority kids into the game.

WeMix.com, the fast-growing, user-generated music creation and record label community for independent artists has partnered with superstar outfielder Torii Hunter of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to give artists around the country the unique opportunity to showcase their musical creativity and make a difference - in a nationwide songwriting contest in search of the best original theme song made especially for Hunter.

The "WeMix Diamond Cut," contest officially begins on August 1, 2008. WeMix will give one new artist a chance to professionally record their original song about Hunter, which Hunter will use as his official theme when he goes to bat during games. The winning song will also be available for sale via Itunes and a variety of other digital distribution purchase points, including ring-tone providers and in-stadium distribution.

"The connection between music and sports has never been stronger," said WeMix co-founder Matt Apfel. The "WeMix Diamond Cut" contest is taking fan participation into a brand new arena, and we're thrilled to have Torii Hunter as our first athlete on the WeMix roster."

"Sports is entertainment. As an agency that creates unique entertainment-brand experiences, we felt that this break-through model, where music meets sports was something that we wanted to get behind immediately," says Jarrod Moses, CEO of the United Entertainment Group, which worked with WeMix in establishing the WeMix / Torii Hunter partnership.

The contest also gives new artists and songwriters the opportunity to make a difference in the community. A portion of the songs' proceeds will go towards the Torii Hunter Project, a national program designed to support youth baseball in inner cities and poor rural communities, regardless of race or ethnicity, with opportunities to learn the game of baseball.

"As an avid music enthusiast, I'm happy to team with WeMix.com to discover talented new artists and find a song that best reflects me," said Torii Hunter. "I'm also excited about opening new avenues that support my efforts to encourage kids to play the game of baseball. The number of African American Major League players has dramatically decreased over the last 10 years, and we're hoping that projects such as this will reverse that trend and get more minority kids into the game."

"I'm a huge fan of baseball and sports, and I truly support what Torii is doing through his foundation", added WeMix co-founder Christopher "Ludacris" Bridges. "This is a fantastic opportunity for WeMix to spread that positive message, excite fans around the country, and make great new music at the same time."
