The Greeley Medical Staff Institute promotes Jonathan H. Burroughs, MD, FACPE, CPE, FACEP, CMSL to a more integral role.

Dr. Burroughs' senior level management experience is a great addition to the team

Dr. Jon Burroughs has been serving as a senior consultant with The Greeley Company for the past five years and now joins the Greeley Medical Staff Institute as a Senior Advisor. Dr. Burroughs will be working with hospitals and healthcare organizations with the top challenges they face in the industry today, such as medical staff leadership and healthcare governance.

Board certified in both medical management and emergency medicine, Dr. Burroughs is a past medical staff president, past president of the New Hampshire chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians, and most recently served as an emergency department medical director. As a member of the governing board of Memorial Hospital in New Hampshire, he chaired the ethics, succession planning and bylaws committees and sat on the joint conference, strategic planning, and medical executive committees.

"Dr. Burroughs' senior level management experience is a great addition to the team," said Dr. Rick Sheff, Chairman and Executive Director of The Greeley Company. "His passion for excellence in medical staff leadership consulting, education, and training, combined with his enthusiasm for personal and professional growth, made it clear to us that he was the right choice for the position."

"This is an exciting time to be joining the company full time," says Dr. Burroughs. "The concept of the 'organized medical staff' is morphing into a far more complex 'mixed model' that will require a broader range of supportive, educational, and consultative services.

This provides the opportunity to explore new strategies in:

  •     Medical staff-hospital alignment
  •     Healthcare Governance, particularly as it pertains to recruiting, retaining, and optimizing long term relationships with leaders and members of the medical staff
  •     Medical staff leadership training and support
  •     Service line medical directors training and support in key clinical areas
  •     Ambulatory quality indicators/disease management
  •     Roles and responsibilities within healthcare networks

As the pace of change is accelerating in the field, the opportunities that we have to create new programs, services, tools, and knowledge will continue to grow as well."

Dr. Burroughs received his BA degree at Johns Hopkins University and his MD from Case Western Reserve. He previously served as a member of the clinical faculty of Dartmouth Medical School where his research interests included introducing EMT defibrillation and automatic defibrillation into the field. Dr. Burroughs is a certified physician executive, a fellow of the American College of Physician Executives, and is currently completing his healthcare MBA at the Isenberg School of Management. He currently serves on the national faculties of the American College of Physician Executives and the American College of Emergency Physicians.
