FASTAFF Nurses Provide Much Needed Healthcare in Flooded Iowa

The nurses were sent to St. Luke's Hospital to work with the overflow of patients from the evacuation and closure of Mercy Medical Center.

In mid-June, the Cedar River poured over its banks, forcing the evacuation of nearly 4,000 homes and businesses, including Mercy Medical Center. The flooding collapsed a bridge and left hundreds of cars underwater on the city's streets. Flood-related injuries and emergencies left area hospitals scrambling to keep up.

Some local nurses from Mercy went to St. Luke's to work and assist with the higher number of patients and the consolidation of both hospitals' services. They were still short staffed, though.
