FASTAFF Nurses Provide Much Needed Healthcare in Flooded Iowa

The leading travel RN staffing company, FASTAFF, is sending travel nurses to an area of Iowa to assist evacuees of a recent scourge of flooding.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) August 7, 2008 -- FASTAFF, a national travel RN staffing agency, recently sent nearly 30 of its travel nurses to help out in flood-ravaged Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The nurses were sent to St. Luke's Hospital to work with the overflow of patients from the evacuation and closure of Mercy Medical Center.

In mid-June, the Cedar River poured over its banks, forcing the evacuation of nearly 4,000 homes and businesses, including Mercy Medical Center. The flooding collapsed a bridge and left hundreds of cars underwater on the city's streets. Flood-related injuries and emergencies left area hospitals scrambling to keep up.

Some local nurses from Mercy went to St. Luke's to work and assist with the higher number of patients and the consolidation of both hospitals' services. They were still short staffed, though. That's where FASTAFF Travel Nursing came in. Within days of receiving the call for help, FASTAFF had 29 travel nurses on the ground and working. FASTAFF nurses filled a variety of specialty gaps, including Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, ICU, CCU, Dialysis, ER, LDRP and Cardiothoracic Post Op.

FASTAFF, St. Luke's and Mercy are grateful to the travel nursing professionals who stepped up during a time of crisis. Administrators, doctors and patients appreciate the flexibility and professional dedication the FASTAFF nurses demonstrated. The rapid response and professionalism of the nurses helped keep healthcare services up and running when they were needed most.
