Independent pharmacies can benefit a lot from I.R.’s leadership qualities
Phoenix, AZ (Vocus) August 9, 2008
United Drugs is pleased to announce that Mr. I.R. Patel, R.Ph., is the seventh recipient of the Michael L. Huston Award. The award presentation was held July 24 during a United Drugs membership meeting at the 2008 Cardinal Health Retail Business Conference in Orlando, Florida.
Founded by United Drugs’ Board of Directors in 2001, this award was established in honor of former United Drugs chief executive officer Michael L. Huston, to recognize a member pharmacist who has contributed to the success of the cooperative, the pharmacy profession, and made a difference in his or her community.
“Independent pharmacies can benefit a lot from I.R.’s leadership qualities,” said Bruce A. Semingson, R.Ph. and CEO of United Drugs. “His leadership and dynamic personality are coupled with passion, conviction and commitment for his customers every day. United Drugs is proud and pleased to honor I.R. Patel.”
Mr. Patel owns Bi-Rite Quality Pharmacy in La Habra, California. Since he purchased his store in 1995, he has seen a lot growth and evolution in his time as an independent pharmacy owner. But throughout the numerous changes, challenges and victories, I.R.’s philosophy has remained the same: his customers come first. Over the last 13 years, I.R. has built a flourishing front-end business coupled with several valuable niche offerings: durable medical equipment, long-term care facility business, and hard-to-find remedies to name just a few. His success can be attributed to his commitment to service and the consistent caring attitude he and his staff show their customers in the Orange County area.
Along with filling a high volume of prescriptions and running a busy retail operation, I.R. is very active in the pharmacy community. From his member recruiting and fundraising efforts to serving on various boards and chair committees for pharmacy organizations (Indian Pharmacists Association, California Pharmacists Association and the Academy of Pharmacy Owners). I.R. is tireless in his work to help to countless pharmacists within the “Golden State”, by sharing his knowledge with others and creating numerous collaborative initiatives to advance the profession of pharmacy. In addition, he has also loyally participated in United Drugs local area meetings and membership conferences throughout the years.
“From the bottom of my heart, I'd like to thank United Drugs for this award,” said Patel. “This is a huge honor for me, as well as for the Indian Pharmacists Association. I believe that one person cannot do a good job on his or her own… it has to be a team effort. My friends at IPA have supported me and helped me out. And I could not have done it without them. This award is even more prestigious to me because I know that there are other pharmacists who are just as worthy as me.”
