Pittsburgh Teen Raffles Her Jonas Brothers Tickets to Educate and Inspire

Alexis Allen, 14-year old founder of The Blue Lion Foundation is raffling her tickets to see her favorite band to raise awareness of her charitable organization, and inspire people of all ages to overcome challenges through persistence and determination.

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) August 13, 2008 -- When Alexis Allen's father purchased tickets for her to The Jonas Brothers, she decided to give away the tickets to see her favorite band to generate awareness for The Blue Lion Foundation, a nonprofit organization she launched in December 2007. Since then hundreds of web visitors have entered the contest in support of Alexis, whose long-term goal is to raise enough money to build a medical center in Haiti.

Not many teens would give up tickets to see the chart-topping heartthrobs known as The Jonas Brothers - but Alexis Allen is no ordinary teen. The gesture came as no surprise to many in the community who know Alexis personally. She's been an enthusiastic volunteer throughout the Pittsburgh area for several years, and annually donates her Christmas presents to children with debilitating illnesses. Alexis hopes the raffle will raise awareness for her charitable organization and an upcoming book she's writing to raise money for the medical center she intends to build in Haiti.

"I love to dance and sing, but there are a lot of children in hospitals around the world who aren't able to participate in activities that they enjoy because of their illnesses," said Alexis Allen. "I realized how lucky I was, and I really wanted to come up with a way to help kids everywhere overcome their diseases and other challenges."

At the age of 12, Alexis Allen read about a young Haitian girl who had developed a tumor and had no access to healthcare. It was then that Alexis decided that she would one day build a medical center in Haiti. She's since launched The Blue Lion Foundation, and mobilized volunteers locally to dedicate time, money and resources to local citizens facing disease and other challenges. One of the foundation's first initiatives was a visit to The Reformed Presbyterian Home, a local assisted living residence to deliver holiday gifts.

In addition to her volunteer efforts locally, Alexis has been interviewing celebrities and community leaders for a book she's writing entitled, "Dream Big." She will use the book sales as her first fundraiser for her medical center. Thus far, she's secured interviews from Apollo 14 astronaut Dr. Edgar Mitchell, Governor Edward Rendell and former Miss America Erica Dunlap, among others. She is currently seeking an interview with The Jonas Brothers for the publication.

"I've been so grateful to all of the people who have let me interview them," said Alexis. "We've talked about everything from overcoming illnesses to the importance of persistence and determination when facing a really big challenge."

In addition to inspiring members of the community and other kids her age, she's also been a great example for her siblings, Summerlee and Loren. Both of her younger sisters often volunteer with Alexis and her foundation.

"We're extremely proud of Alexis," said her father, Douglas Allen. "She has a huge heart and loads of ambition and there's no doubt in my mind that she will continue to help and inspire a great number of people in her lifetime."
