With word-of-mouth radiating fast, the new StudioSabra.com is already proving to have the most exciting and meaningful jewelry collections of 2008. In its debut year, the Israel-based online retailer has become a trendsetter in authentic jewelry that draws on spiritual, historical and ethnic themes. Customers eager for artistic, exclusive jewelry beyond the mass-market brands are connecting to StudioSabra.com.
"Our jewelry holds onto the creative edge of the artist's studio for the touch of individuality that's rapidly disappearing," says Jay Kohn, president of StudioSabra.com, which he founded in Tel Aviv. "These collections are for those consumers who want to pay a little more to ensure they're getting a piece that was not stamped out in a factory but hand-made by an artist."
The designs of StudioSabra.com's Israeli artists weave together symbols that through the millennia have been integral to the human spirit. Earrings, necklaces and other pieces evoke the pomegranate and the fish, symbols of fertility, as well as the dove of peace to highlight nature and the open hand hamsa for protection from harm. Diamonds, citrine and garnet are among the 12 precious stones of the Hoshen worn by every High Priest in the Temple to represent the 12 Tribes of Israel. Used in the jewelry, each stone expresses faith and optimism.
For 2008, StudioSabra.com showcases the jewelry of premier artists including Pazit Keidar, Limor Gefen and Ruth Finkelstein. "Israel is a small country with a huge talent base," Kohn says. "Its foundation mirrors that of the United States' in that Israel is a country of immigrants from all of Europe, Russia, India, Australia, South America and more. So these designs reflect the deep spirituality of this place as well as cultures around the globe. That's why each piece is like nothing else."
With the foundation now laid, StudioSabra.com is anticipating a successful first year and high demand this holiday season. Currently, 12 artists have their collections available on the site, comprising 250 different designs. Future plans are to add new collections from other countries that fit the company's commitment to authentic, meaningful jewelry. "Our ultimate mission," Kohn says, "is to build StudioSabra.com into one of the most recognized and successful online jewelry retailers in the world."
