Scuba Diver Takes the Plunge and Purchases a Home in Mallorca

Think of a holiday in Spain and you probably picture relaxing in bright sunshine on a beautiful beach, perhaps swimming in the sparkling blue sea, or playing a round or two of golf. But for John Hanney from Edinburgh, who works for the Scottish Ambulance Service, it's a passion for scuba diving which attracted him to buy a property in Spain.

The water is beautifully warm and clear and you can spot all sorts of colourful sealife, including starfish, sea urchins and coral. The underwater landscapes are really spectacular.

John said: "Of course Spain is popular for its stunning scenery and its wonderful weather but it also offers fantastic opportunities for scuba diving. There are a number of diving clubs around Mallorca which cater for beginners, and those who are more experienced. Some are British owned and staffed so you don't need to worry about terms being lost in translation and diving in Spain is a great budget diving destination.

John and his wife Helen bought a large two bedroom penthouse at Taylor Woodrow de España's Cala Magrana 2 development in Mallorca, through Edinburgh based Ecosse International Properties. The couple and their children, twins Dawn and Bruce, visit their home several times a year and also rent it out as an investment.

John said: "We had been thinking about buying a home in Spain for about 10 years and did lots of research into companies building in Spain. We chose Taylor Woodrow de España because it's based in the UK, has an excellent reputation and we wanted to make sure we invested in a company we could trust.

"Cala Magrana 2 ticked all the boxes for us. Flight times to Mallorca are short from Edinburgh airport which is just a few miles from where we live. The development is just two minutes from the sea and at Cala Mandia beach there is a scuba diving school.

"We're also within walking distance of the marina of Porto Cristo, which is beautiful, and within easy reach of several superb golf courses. We also like the region because it hasn't been spoilt by too many English pubs - the Spanish culture is still strong here which is important to us."

Cala Magrana 2 is perfect for those who like to make the most of the great outdoors. As well as the Vall d'Or and Pula golf clubs nearby, there are also numerous opportunities to go walking, cycling or diving or play tennis.

John added: "We love to make the most of the weather by being outside as much as we can. We particularly enjoy being able to eat on the terrace as the weather in Scotland usually doesn't lend itself to meals outdoors! As well as being a sound investment our home is now our haven in the sun."
