The Teachers' Lounge, an innovative retail store in St. Louis, Missouri offering teachers' supplies to elementary school teachers and parents, celebrates its first year anniversary on August 14, 2008. The store is geared toward elementary school teachers as well as home schoolers and parents of elementary school students.

Since opening in August of 2007, The Teachers' Lounge has added over 500 new products to its offerings, largely based on input from its customers. The online store, at http://www.the-teachers-lounge.com/ has also grown steadily in popularity. The online store offers over 14,000 products, including many items not available in the brick-and-mortar store. Says owner Scott Gurley, "We continue to bring in the most up-to-date materials from suppliers like Carson-Dellosa, Scholastic and Trend. Our goal is to make sure our customers can find exactly what they are looking for, when they need it."

The store's staff has also grown from six employees to thirteen in its first year.

One popular program at The Teachers' Lounge is Story Hour: once a week, The Teachers' Lounge hosts a story hour for children ages 2-6. A team member reads a story and the kids participate in a related activity or craft. They have become so popular that a second Story Hour has been added.

Another innovation is The Lounge Lizards Club. It is free to join and for every $100 spent, members receive a $10 reward card. The program was started as a way to give back to teachers, and in the first year over $10,000 worth of reward cards have been sent out.

The Teachers' Lounge also offers "fund-raiser weeks" to local schools: the participating school promotes their fund-raiser week to teachers and parents; the school then receives rewards based on sales made to their teachers and parents during that week. The more purchases they make, the greater the rewards earned by the school, which can then be applied toward any in-store, catalog or online purchase.

"In our second year, we plan to upgrade our online store to include product reviews and the ability to check whether items are in-stock in the physical store," notes Gurley. "We also plan to place more emphasis on fund-raiser weeks. Our ultimate goal is to provide an unparalleled shopping experience for our parents and teachers."

Located in the South County area of St. Louis, Missouri, The Teachers' Lounge is a retail store offering a comprehensive selection of education supplies to teachers, parents and children. We provide our customers with a welcoming, comfortable environment where everyone---teachers, parents and kids---feels free to hang out, share ideas and learn something new. The goal for our store is simple: To provide quality educational products to teachers and parents that will help instill a love of learning in every child.
