Real Estate: Consumers Demand Localized Knowledge From Home Search Sites

Consumers: Sites Just Providing Basic Info, Pictures, and Virtual Tours Still Not Helpful Enough In Finding a Home

While consumers have come a long way with the abundance of home search tools available on the Internet, many are still not getting all the information they'd like. According to the FOUST Team, a group of Southern California real estate agents, consumers have become skeptical of the flattering property pictures and descriptions used on major home search sites and are growing increasingly wary. This claim is backed in part by a study from J.D. Power & Associates published July 2008 finding that while homebuyers are seeing the Internet as a helpful tool, they are not finding it to be a replacement for a reputable local real estate agent.

The FOUST Team explains that what these consumers really want is the knowledge and help of a local professional by stating that:

"Real estate consumers really want to learn more about the areas where these houses reside, and while the fancy demographic pie charts readily available are useful, they are not seen by consumers as an end all solution"

They go on to say:

"The problem facing many homebuyers is that they do not have enough detailed familiarity with neighborhoods of the cities they are considering. Homebuyers become frustrated after wasting time and effort viewing a house that looked perfect online only to later find that the neighborhood is not acceptable. This is usually the point that they begin to enlist the help of an agent with local familiarity."

In an attempt to answer the call of these homebuyers, the FOUST Team is blending local agent expertise with a convenient online format. The Neighborhood Review section of their website will offer unbiased neighborhood reports in a consistent format that homebuyers can browse, investigate, and compare during their home search.

The FOUST Team wants consumers to understand that these reviews will not be flowery sales pitches for the areas discussed. If there are known shortcomings, and there usually are, they will be pointed out right along with all of the positive aspects.    This is all in an effort to educate, inform, and ultimately help consumers to make better home buying decisions.

Their Fullerton, CA real estate page is the first of many cities to have an initial release of reviews. These Fullerton Neighborhood Reviews each detail a neighborhood history, available home models, neighborhood pictures, area fundamentals, special features, and expert insider tips.

The FOUST Team states that the whole idea started when they tabulated the amount of time it took to convey their local knowledge to clients. This realization led them to a better solution that is now being made available to everybody online. Prospective homebuyers will also find that the site is also accepting requests from consumers for reviews of neighborhoods in Orange and Los Angeles Counties that are not currently covered. This initial neighborhood rollout is just the beginning in a comprehensive catalog of reviews aimed at aiding Southern California homebuyers.
