We are delighted to support the Subversion project
San Ramon, California (PRWEB) August 18, 2008
WANdisco, a leading provider of infrastructure software for replication, scalability & high availability, today announced support for Subversion 1.5, the latest release of the world's leading version control system.
The Subversion open source community recently announced the general availability of Subversion 1.5. This new release improves the performance and scalability of Subversion and introduces merge tracking; one of the most frequently requested features by corporate users. Merge tracking enables automated and efficient management of code branches across geographically separated development teams.
"We are delighted to support the Subversion project," said David Richards, WANdisco's President & CEO. "We firmly believe that Subversion 1.5 represents an inflection point for Subversion with new features such as merge tracking that make complex parallel development processes much easier. Subversion is currently growing faster than any other source code management system, and we see this trend continuing for the foreseeable future"
Subversion 1.5 also provides interactive conflict resolution, which enables users to resolve issues during the merge process. A complete history of merges is maintained, as well as annotated logs that allow users to query for available changes on different lines of source code files. Backing out changes to code is also easier thanks to the merge tracking functionality.
"We've long been pleased to see Subversion become an increasingly common component in enterprise infrastructure," said Karl Fogel, president of the non-profit Subversion Corporation. "It's also good to see it being incorporated into third-party product offerings - that tells us that all our work on reliability and API stability is paying off."

Subversion (SVN) is a version control system initiated in 2000 by CollabNet Inc. It is used to maintain current and historical versions of files such as source code, web pages, and documentation. Its goal is to be a mostly-compatible successor to the widely used Concurrent Versions System (CVS).
Subversion is also being adopted in the corporate world. In a 2007 report by Forrester Research, Subversion was recognized as the sole leader in the Standalone Software Configuration Management (SCM) category and a strong performer in the Software Configuration and Change Management (SCCM) category.
Subversion is released under the Apache License, making it free software.
