The lore of a wonderful golf course and the appeal of a mild climate with only three seasons enticed George Shane to a paradise in Northern Florida. Soon he became involved with an unusual group of senior golfers who play a strange version of the game. The leader of the group is the charismatic William "Divot" Mulligan, who designed a unique format that enables senior golfers to play enjoyable, stress-free golf. Shane had never been happier on a golf course. Unfortunately, the group's idyllic life would become enmeshed in a controversy involving all golfers and forcing Divot to enter uncharted waters. He now faced the biggest challenge of his life: a test of his character.
Utilizing senior golf as a backdrop, author Carson W. Bryan's new release from Christian self-publisher Xulon Press, William Divot Mulligan: A Man for All Seniors (paperback, 978-1-60647-471-6; hardcover, 978-1-60647-472-3), takes a satirical look at certain aspects of our life in the United States. The book reveals that life is a comedy intertwined with tragedy, one in which our character is tested every day of our lives. "We seldom realize how often our character gets tested in our everyday lives," says Bryan. "Pretending to be someone other than who you really are will lead to unhappiness at best and misery at worst."
Armed with a Ph.D. in clinical supervision from the University of Pittsburgh and a variety of life experiences, Bryan felt confident he had the tools necessary to enable him to write this study of human nature. Being an avid golfer and former golf coach, he had the advantage of seeing people at their best and worst. That is why he turned to writing to inform others of the dangers of not being true to oneself.
