Introducing, the Jules Verne Festival's "EXTRAORDINAIRE at The Edison"; Once in a Lifetime Celebrations of Legendary Films, People & Achievements

The Birds, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Some Like it Hot & Planet of The Apes to be the first films of the series.

The series pays tribute to the motion picture, but even more so it honors the visionaries who have helped turned the promise of fiction into science and innovation. Out of dreams, the honorees have created art and inventions that remind us of the boundless possibilities unleashed by imagination.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 26, 2008 -- Located deep within Los Angeles' Historic Core, The Jules Verne Festival joins the world class lounge The Edison, to proudly announce the festival's new screening series entitled EXTRAORDINAIRE, which will pay tribute to iconic films, honor legendary people, recognize outstanding achievements and celebrate significant milestones. The Edison will host EXTRAORDINAIRE once a month to create living history--providing guests an insight into past eras of invention & discovery; blending science, adventure, imagination and innovation.

The series celebrates the intersections of Science & Fiction, art and imagination. It explores the visionary adventures of Jules Verne and the technical innovation of Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, and those contemporaries who share their inventive genius.

The events unfold within the dynamic backdrop of one of Los Angeles' first private power plants--where the original architectural and mechanical artifacts once again brings light and energy to the City's historic Downtown.

Additionally, EXTRAORDINAIRE is designed to spark imagination in its guests and raise funds and awareness for the conservation of our heritage and planet. Proceeds will go to JVF's Educational programs that benefit over 6000 children each year in the Los Angeles area.

Edison owner Andrew Meieran comments on EXTRAORDINAIRE, "The series pays tribute to the motion picture, but even more so it honors the visionaries who have helped turned the promise of fiction into science and innovation. Out of dreams, the honorees have created art and inventions that remind us of the boundless possibilities unleashed by imagination." Jules Verne Festival Co-Founders Jean Christophe Jeauffre and Frédéric Dieudonné explain their vision of utilizing the series to influence its supporters as, "Education & Conservation through Imagination. Imagination is the source of invention and it is our goal to inspire people to think outside the box, in the tradition of Jules Verne, to generate innovative ways to save our planet ."

EXTRAORDINAIRE is proud to welcome Ben Lyons, new co-host of "At the Movies" and movie critic on E! Entertainment, as the host of the film series. Ben will bring together New and Classic Hollywood, while the films play on the restored walls of the historical power plant transporting guests back in time with the 1910 cast iron generators and rich Edison décor.

The first film to be screened in the series is Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, on September 14th. We will pay tribute to actress and conservationist Tippi Hedren and be joined by co-star Rod Taylor and Patricia Hitchcock, the master of suspense's daughter, among other special guest stars. Honorary Board members include: Buzz Aldrin, Ernest Borgnine, James Cameron, Tony Curtis, Albert Falco, Harrison Ford, Jane Goodall, Brian Jones, Christopher Lee, Patrice Leconte, Malcolm McDowell, Jacques Piccard, Bertrand Piccard, Omar Sharif, John Scott, Patrick Stewart, Don Walsh, Jean-Jules Verne.
