A social networking site and online community designed for current and prospective automotive and aviation technology students, their instructors and professionals in the field has just been launched.

Snap-on, the leading manufacturer and marketer of tools, tool storage, diagnostics and equipment for professional users, tapped Raceway Media, LLC to develop the first social networking site for the high-school and college technical student community.

The new site, located at http://education.snapon.com, provides a social networking experience for individuals with a passion for automotive or aviation technology. Registration is free, and members of the S-TECH community can connect with others with similar interests, create and share profiles, photos and video, keep up with industry innovations and news, participate in user forums and create their own blogs.

In addition to the social networking features, site visitors can use the search function to find Snap-on Certified Training Centers as well as technical colleges offering special student pricing for Snap-on tools and tool storage. The site also provides career path information to help inform prospective students and their parents about the benefits of careers in the industry. Additional features and enhancements are being incorporated into the site on a continuing basis.

"Snap-on is very committed to supporting the backbone of tomorrow's workforce, and the S-TECH site provides a unique opportunity to support and encourage tech students by giving them a way to connect with each other and with professionals in the field," said Frederick Brookhouse, Snap-on's Business and Education Partnership Manager. "Raceway Media brought valuable experience to the project with their background in developing vertical niche social networking sites. With the launch of S-TECH, today's tech students and technicians can now enjoy their very own online community."

"We placed a statement on the S-TECH homepage that really captures the essence of what we wanted the site to be for its users: 'Your Site, Your Network, Your Future," said John Gamble, Raceway Media's Director of Special Projects. "Our goal was to create a social network and destination website that would speak directly to this particular community, and where they could create connections with other people who share their experiences, interests and goals."

There are nearly 100,000 students enrolled nationwide in automotive or technical training programs and the U.S. Department of Labor projects steady and significant job growth for trained automotive technicians over the next decade.
