Sometimes exploring the Internet can be as tedious as reading a dictionary

A picture is worth a thousand words. That's the principle behind VisFind, a new Web site that aims to change the way people explore and communicate on the World Wide Web.

Fed up with staring at page after page of mind-numbing text, an Australian computing student has come up with a better way for Web site owners to connect with new audiences. VisFind is a pictorial Web directory, where every Web site listed is shown as a picture.

"Sometimes exploring the Internet can be as tedious as reading a dictionary," said Matt Turner, creator of the Web site. "With VisFind the experience is more like window shopping. It's fun, easy on the eyes, and more productive because pictures can communicate far more information than pages of text."

For advertisers, VisFind works like a self-service kiosk. Web site owners can upload an image and design an advertisement in a matter of minutes. Once listed, the advertisement can be edited at any time, day or night. "The simplicity and control advertisers have is unprecedented," Matt said.

VisFind also includes a free banner exchange service. "You can dramatically increase the exposure of your advertisements by placing a VisFind AdBox on your Web site," Matt said. "By doing this, your own advertisement will be displayed automatically on other AdBoxes around the Web. It costs nothing; all you need to do is participate."

Unlike other Web advertising services based on pay-per-click or pay-per-impression fee models, VisFind offers a series of fixed rate plans catering to tight budgets. "For less than a dollar a day, the service is priced in favor of small businesses and individuals," Matt explained. "You only need imagination, not a big budget, to achieve world-wide brand recognition and compete directly with the big corporations."

As a promotional giveaway, VisFind is offering free advertising to the first 150 Web sites who sign up before September 30, 2008. For more information, visit http://www.visfind.com and click on the Advertise tab.
