Poll: Travelers Find No Comfort in Paying for Pillow and Blanket

New Poll from Lessno.com Asks Which New Airline Fees are Worst.

In light of recent announcements from airlines of a plethora of new charges, reduced services, and increased fees, Lessno.com today released a new poll of what really irks travelers. A poll of 210 people by the international discount travel website found that JetBlue's decision to charge for pillow and blankets is the worst. Thirty-four percent of those polled chose it as the most unpopular of the new fees.

The competition for the least liked was close. Twenty-eight percent chose drink / soda as the worst new airline charge. U.S. Airways was the first to take away free beverages. Two in ten, or 21 percent, chose meals on overseas flights. United Air was the first to commit this sin. And 17 percent complained of charges for preferred seating in coach. Northwest, U.S. Airways, and JetBlue are all guilty in that case. While those polled were not asked specifically about fees for checking bags, it was mentioned by quite a few as unpopular.

"The idea that airlines are nickel and diming passengers on things like sodas and pillows is ridiculous," said Assen Vassilev, co-founder of Lessno.com. "So many people we talk to say they'd just rather see it in the total price of their ticket. Travelers want airlines to be upfront with them on the cost of going from point A to point B. All these extras are just annoying and take away from the fun that should be flying and travel."
