San Diego (PRWEB) September 4, 2008
Holding Hands, an organization that assists local San Diegans in need, is pleased to offer an evening of fun, food and music on September 13th to both honor and raise funds for American service members injured in combat. The event will take place on the U.S.S. Midway in San Diego Bay and will feature "Art In Concert" by master artist Michael Israel and live music with a tribute to Elton John, Billy Joel and John Lennon.
According to recent U.S. Department of Defense numbers, over 30,000 American service members have been wounded overseas during combat in either Iraq or Afghanistan. Many of these wounded warriors return home with mental and physical scars that last a lifetime, with the effects of war far reaching to both friends and family. On September 13th, these heroes will be honored aboard the flight deck of the U.S.S. Midway at this event, with all proceeds benefiting the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and Warrior Foundation, two organizations that assist the wounded.
The evening of fun and food will feature special tributes to our Heroes and include wine tasting from over twenty California wineries, hors d'oeuvres, a silent and live auction capped with a firework spectacular at the end of the night. As part of an already great evening, international Artist Michael Israel (MichaelIsrael.com) will perform a live 'Art In Concert' show painting several of his dynamic works on stage. His show opens with a brief introduction and then the spectacle begins. The music explodes and the paint starts to fly! With several paintbrushes in each hand, Michael Israel transforms a larger-than-life, rotating canvas into a spectacular, 3-D art masterpiece within minutes. A live auction of the performed artworks will follow Michael's performance.
"A few years ago, I visited the Wounded Warrior Center on Camp Pendleton and was very moved by the experience," said Rob LaBreche, president of Holding Hands. "We are fortunate to have these brave men and women dedicated to serving our country and willing to put their lives on the line for us. We expect over 100 wounded and I invite all San Diegans to come out and show their support for our troops."
"I can't even begin to tell you how much the Semper Fi Fund has helped me since I came back injured from Iraq," said Philip Levine, a Marine. "It was the little things like taking care of the travel expenses for my family to visit me over the holidays and calling me to see if I needed help for the cost of books for school. They really care and it means a lot."
