Supersize it with Python Bootcamp, November 10-14, 2008
This isn't your grandfather's Python training class.
The Big Nerd Ranch, in partnership with Python guru, David Beazley, blows other Python classes out of the water with a unique, context-driven approach to Python training that focuses on real-world challenges and developing complex applications with Big Nerd Ranch Python Bootcamp, November 10-14, 2008.
David Beazley, author of "Python Essential Reference" and highly acclaimed Python developer and instructor, has created a five-day, intensive Python training class that is ideal for programmers and system administrators who need to access and extend existing systems, and for those needing to learn Python to understand Pylon or Django. For those who already have a basic knowledge of Python, Python Bootcamp deepens their understanding and positions them to take their Python development to the next level in creating advanced, intricate applications for a variety of uses, including scientific and numeric programming, animation, quality assurance, and gaming systems.
"It's a common challenge. A developer inherits a legacy application that requires extensive enhancements to improve scalability, complexity of data, and added functionality capable of meeting the increased demands of current realities," said Big Nerd Ranch founder, Aaron Hillegass. "Python provides a practical solution to that challenge by offering simplicity and elegance in design and nearly unmatched flexibility in integration across platforms. Big Nerd Ranch, in collaboration with David Beazley, makes learning how to solve those problems possible."
The class follows the standard week-long format for which the Big Nerd Ranch is known and recommends that students have pre-existing knowledge of an object-oriented programming language (C++ or Java) and a scripting language like Perl or Unix shell scripting.
The class begins with a concentrated introduction into Python fundamentals, including datatypes, files and error handling, list processing primitives, variables, reference counting and type checking. Once those topics have been mastered, students are launched into the more complex aspects of Python programming, listed below:
-Organizing and recycling code with control flow, exceptions and functions
-Organizing programs into modules and packages, including third party library modules
-Effectively implementing objects in Python
-Working with text, files, and processes
-Programming for networks and the internet (client and server-side programming, data handling and XML)
-Building extensions, embedding Python, and integrating with COM on Windows
The Big Nerd Ranch incorporates intensive training classes for Unix and Mac OS X programmers in a retreat setting outside Atlanta, GA. Class price of $3500 includes lodging, all meals, original instruction materials, 24-hour lab access, and transportation to and from the Atlanta airport. Students are encouraged to bring independent projects to class, allowing for input from classmates and individual instructor attention.
