Report a Rogue Online Pharmacy: LegitScript.com Urges Internet Users to Report Online Drug Dealers, Counterfeit Drugs

LegitScript's rogue online pharmacy reporting program now has over 10,000 websites. Internet users can confirm whether an online pharmacy is legitimate or not, and report unsafe or illegal prescription drug websites, at LegitScript.com.

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) September 4, 2008 -- LegitScript, an online pharmacy verification service, is urging Internet users to report online pharmacies that appear to be engaged in illegal or unsafe activity at LegitScript.com.

LegitScript's rogue Internet pharmacy reporting service launched in May, 2007. Since then, LegitScript has documented over 10,000 online pharmacies that violate federal or state laws, or that engage in practices that fail to meet LegitScript's online pharmacy verification standards.

Internet users can help us make this problem smaller by telling us about 'rogue' Internet pharmacies
The organization's online pharmacy verification standards are recognized by the National Association of Board of Pharmacy. LegitScript has identified more than 100 websites as meeting its standards.

"Internet users can help us make this problem smaller by telling us about 'rogue' Internet pharmacies," said John Horton, LegitScript President. "Websites engaged in illicit activity dislike the sunlight. Identifying and documenting who they are and what they are doing helps us know how to respond to them."

LegitScript also announced a designated email for people to forward "spam" emails for prescription drugs: spam (at) legitscript.com. "We actually want people's spam," Horton said. Users can either forward the spam to spam (at) legitscript.com, or report the URL from LegitScript.com's home page.

There are several signs that an Internet pharmacy may be operating unsafely. These include:

  • Offering to sell prescription drugs without requiring a prescription.
  • Allowing a customer to fill in a questionnaire to get a prescription, instead of requiring a prior in-person visit to a doctor.
  • Offering prescription drugs from outside of the United States.
  • Failing to disclose the pharmacy's physical location and phone number clearly on the website.
  • Lacking a pharmacist licensed in the US who is available to answer any questions.

Internet users can report a rogue online pharmacy at LegitScript.com. LegitScript will periodically report the results of its rogue online pharmacy program.
