Walker's Citiswitch Industrial Estate Signs First Major Tenant

Walker Corporation has announced today that The Reject Shop has signed-up to their billion dollar landmark development, CITISWICH Industrial Estate at Bremer, near Ipswich

(PRWEB) September 6, 2008 -- Walker Corporation has announced today that The Reject Shop has signed-up to their billion dollar landmark development,
CITISWICH Industrial Estate at Bremer, near Ipswich.

The deal is for the construction of a 25,000sqm Northern Distribution Centre for The Reject Shop, with the capacity to service up to 200 stores throughout QLD and Northern NSW.

The Reject Shop will lease a 5.1HA portion of the 23HA first stage of the estate, joining Capral Aluminium, Hume Masterpanel and Australian Hardboards alongside other businesses from the logistics, construction, fabrication and storage industries which have also committed to the first stages of the estate.

Lang Walker, Executive Chairman, Walker Corporation said that he likes the progressive nature of the Ipswich City Council, and noted that the infrastructure investment by government is one of the key factors driving development and business relocation into the Ipswich area.

"The CITISWICH estate is one of the state's most significant developments, and the estate is set to benefit from government infrastructure spending in the Western Corridor through improved road connections, public transport connectivity and utilities provision," Mr Walker said.

New road connections directly around the estate will directly benefit users at the site, creating better access between the Warrego and Cunningham Highways, as well as the Ipswich Motorway. Walker will also invest around $10 million to create a new connection between the Warrego Highway and Brisbane Road.

Walker will generate up to 70 new jobs within the local community through direct employment and subcontracting during the construction program. On completion of the estate, over 5,000 jobs will be created, making the estate important employment lands to support the region's growing population.

Walker has over 30 years experience in the industrial sector, delivering purpose-built facilities for high profile clients including Toll Ipec, TNT Logistics, 3M, Grace Records Management and Bluescope Steel.

CITISWICH is the largest development in Walker's industrial portfolio, which also comprises a 35HA development at Hume in the ACT. The company also commences earthworks on Monday at the 100HA Vicinity Industrial Base in the northern suburbs of Adelaide.
