Metro Properties, Inc. Gives Back To The Community - Donates $200,000 in Educational Grants

Jeremy Rubenstein, President of Metro Properties, Inc., announced today that he will be presenting educational grants in the amount of $200,000 on Wednesday, September 10, 2008. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. in Room 120 of the John A. Wilson Building located at 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C., 20004. The funds will be donated to four specific education and afterschool organizations that benefit the residents of ANC 1A in Ward 1 of the District of Columbia, and are part of the community benefits package for Allegro, a mixed-use development featuring 297 luxury apartments and street-front retail located near the Columbia Heights Metro Station at 3460 14th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20010.

The grant recipients include:

1.    For Love of Children (FLOC), http://www.floc.org

  •     Will receive $50,000 to fund the tutoring of ANC 1A children.
  •     FLOC uses the Neighborhood Tutoring Program (NTP), a system that has achieved striking success in quickly bringing students to grade level in math and reading.

2.    Harriet Tubman Elementary School

  •     Will receive $75,000 for substantial improvements to its existing playground, playground equipment and 24 laptop computer systems.

3.    Bruce Monroe Elementary School

  •     Will receive $25,000 to fund participation in the Sports4Kids program.

4.    Park Morton Youth and Recreation Center

  •     Will receive $50,000 to provide state-of-the-art computer, software and recreational items services for the children of ANC 1A.

Jeremy N. Rubenstein stated, "We are proud to be able to reinvest in the most important part of our local community, its youth. With the help and guidance of Councilmember Jim Graham, as well as ANC 1A Chair Dotti Wade and ANC 1A representative Calvin Woodland Jr., we have selected a group of recipients who will put these funds to extremely good use. We would also like to express our appreciation and our support to Mayor Adrian Fenty for his efforts to bring quality education to all of the residents of the District of Columbia." Mr. Rubenstein also expressed his deep appreciation to the residents of Columbia Heights and to their elected representatives in Ward 1 and ANC 1A for support in connection with the development of Allegro.
