"Unspoken Courage", painted by world renowned watercolor artist, Pomm, has become the official 9/11 tribute painting. It now hangs in over 35 Fire Stations in New York City and Manhattan.
Pomm unveiled the original at her gallery in Studio City on Thursday, Sept 11th at 1:30 pm , and it will be available for viewing the month of September. The gallery, named simply POMM, is located at 4330 Tujunga Ave., in Studio City, and is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 am to 7 pm daily.
"I traveled to Ground Zero in NYC the week after the terrorist attacks to do whatever I could to help. The unselfish dedication and bravery of the rescue workers was something that I will always remember," says Pomm. "I wanted to paint something that would inspire all of us to carry on that tradition of help and service."
"Unspoken Courage" carries a message that is as timely today, seven years later, as it was in the months following 9/11. "I hope people will see that courage, honor and unity are the virtues that have been born from such a tragic event, and that we should continue to strengthen them."
In the year following the 9/11 tragedy, Pomm traveled to New York and presented her masterpiece, "Unspoken Courage" to the New York City Fire Department. For her efforts, Pomm was made an honorary member of FDNY.
One print of "Unspoken Courage" now hangs at the FDNY headquarters and another hangs at the training academy on the three-story Memorial Wall which is a tribute to the 9/11 FDNY fallen heroes. Plaques of the deceased firefighters surround "Unspoken Courage". As Pomm's painting is the only piece selected for this memorial, "Unspoken Courage" has become the official 9/11 tribute painting.
A longtime Human Rights advocate, Pomm been recognized by the Pope in Rome for her touching paintings, Unspoken Courage described above and We Believe in Peace which promotes world peace. Pomm is also a founding member of Artists for Human Rights, a group of International Artists dedicated to improve world conditions through art forms. The group is chaired by actress Anne Archer.
On display in her gallery are many of her other paintings which also evoke the timeless message of affinity, peace, and the affirmation of the beauty in life. Recently returning from New York,
where she attended the Human Rights Awards, Pomm will be available at her gallery for signing
on Saturday Sept 13th from 1pm to 6 pm. .
