Whether you believe in ghosts or other aspects of the paranormal, every culture has its folklore and many, many people have had an experience they simply can't explain. L'Aura Hladik decided to investigate for herself, so she started with her home state of New Jersey. "Ghosthunting New Jersey" ($14.95, Clerisy Press), examines more than 30 of the spookiest haunts, from museums and colleges to theaters and churches, all over the Garden State. The results might surprise even the most devout skeptics.
"The true ghost hunter is all about the research and figuring out how and why something happened and whether it could happen again if the conditions were controlled," says L'Aura in the book's introduction. "Reading this book will give you historical background and possible explanations for the haunting at each place. These are not the last word on New Jersey's ghosts and their places of inhabitance. It's a guide. You'll get an idea of what to look for, but the rest is up to you. Happy Hunting!"
In "Ghosthunting New Jersey", readers will learn of haunted locales from across New Jersey, including:
- Centenary College in Hackettstown, where the ghost of a previous kitchen worker, Tillie Smith, is known to roam
- The Spy House in Port Monmouth, one of the most haunted sites on the Eastern Seaboard, which is home to several ghosts
- Mount Holly's Burlington County Prison Museum, where the ghost of Joel Clough haunts the prison's dungeon
- Plus tales of a haunted porcelain doll at Bell's Mansion in Stanhope, "Blood Lane" in the Watchung Reservation in Union County, and many more
L'Aura Hladik founded the New Jersey Ghost Hunters Society in 1998 after getting her official start as a ghost hunter in 1993. She's appeared on the Montel Williams Show as well as television and radio shows throughout New Jersey.
L'Aura will be at the Paranormal Intensive on September 20 in Hackettstown, NJ. That night, join L'Aura and famous psychic medium, Jane Doherty, for a buffet dinner and Spirit Circle at the haunted Charlie Brown's Steakhouse in Hackettstown. Details of the haunting at this restaurant are also in "Ghosthunting New Jersey".
