London, UK (PRWEB) September 14, 2008
Online Video Sharing sites have shown a dramatic increase in UK online viewers in the last 18 months. According to new data released by metrics firm comScore. in May 2008 Google's networks of websites, including YouTube, dominate the UK web video market and have seen their market share increase from 33.9% last May 2007 to 44.9%to May 2008. The BBC had the second-biggest UK online video audience after Google in May, with 6.5 million users and 55.8m videos demonstrated by the success of the Iplayer launched last year. In the last 12 months Facebook and ITV.com have shown significantly increases in their share of the UK's web video market over the past year. Both Facebook and ITV.com launched new video growing their market share from a very low volumes to audiences of almost 2 million users each. Other Sites such as MSN content network remained stagnant while Yahoo actually fell, UK users watched 53% less video in May 2008 for Yahoo compared with the same month last year, falling to 25.1m clips.
Google's introducing of "Universal Search" or blended search in May 2007 has seen more and more video clips being included into the Google Video search results pages. Creating a video site map can also improve Google listings by allowing the search engine to access content and metadata that will enable it to add the footage to the Google Video Index. The use of utilising Video Content to support SEO strategy is likely to continue in the future. "Our testing carried out so far has shown that Optimisation, tagging and distribution of Video Content to Video sharing sites like Google is relatively uncompetitive when ranking in Search Engines in Google Video. The understanding of the creative formats of Online Video clips is also critical for success. Creating a video site map can also improve Google listings by allowing the search engine to access content and metadata that will enable it to add the footage to the Google Video Index. I expect to see more and more Search budgets being allocated to Video Optimisation in the future." - David Reilly, Managing Director, Barracuda Digital.
