Wayne Rooney Highlights Common Motoring Blunder
Filling your car with the wrong fuel is a costly gaffe as Wayne Rooney found out when he filled his wife Coleen's luxury car with the wrong type of fuel.
(PRWEB) September 26, 2008 -- The Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney scored a monumental own goal by putting unleaded petrol into a diesel engine and costing £6,000 to fix.
Swinton, the UK's leading high street motor insurance retailer is warning drivers to pay attention at the pumps and says Wayne's boob highlights a common mistake made by motorists.
According to Swinton, many insurers will not cover the repair costs of accidentally filling a tank with the wrong type of petrol and drivers could be left with hefty bills up to £6,000.
Steve Chelton, Insurer Development Manager at Swinton said: "Putting petrol into a diesel engine is a costly clanger and is often not covered by your car insurance policy. Wayne certainly won't make this mistake twice and we're urging drivers to take heed and think about sticking a label on their petrol cap to remind them what fuel to use.
"If you do unfortunately fill your tank with the wrong kind of fuel then you might need to have your engine drained. If you realise straight away then try not to put your ignition on so that the wrong fuel doesn't circulate around the engine and if you only put a tiny amount in then you might be able to top it up with the correct fuel and burn it off."
Wayne Rooney has a collection of luxury cars including an Aston Martin Vanquish, Lamborghini Gallardo, Bentley Continental GT and a BMW M6.
