Messaging Architects, the experts in email risk management and compliance, today announced that Mark Crispin, the inventor of the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP), has joined the company's R&D team to continue what has become a life-long endeavour to make email the most useful application on the Internet.

Mr. Crispin's most significant contribution to the advancement of email occurred in 1986 while working at Stanford University's Knowledge Systems Laboratory where he developed IMAP as a standard for client-server email management. The direct benefits of Crispin's invention included the ability for users to access their email from multiple personal computers or mobile devices, the intelligent handling of email attachments, and the ability to organize and search email messages without requiring them to be downloaded on a user's computer or email device.

Mr. Crispin will apply his 30-plus years of software innovation experience to the M+Platform, an integrated product suite that leverages standard messaging protocols to effectively address the growing security, compliance and business threats that continue to plague email.

"Email is broken," said Pierre Chamberland, Messaging Architects' founder and CEO. "There are a lot of point solutions on the market that address email security and archiving, but very few in terms of smart integration."

From a standards-based perspective, the result is a landscape of disconnected products that are incompatible, complex and expensive for organisations to own and manage, explained Chamberland. This also means they are exposed to even higher levels of risk since these point solutions introduce undetected security and compliance gaps.

"What was good enough yesterday isn't good enough today, let alone tomorrow," said Mark Crispin. "Messaging Architects is well positioned to build cutting-edge technology that addresses the ever-evolving needs of its customers. I am thrilled to be part of a team that shares my vision for superior email infrastructure."

The M+Platform leverages standard messaging protocols to power the entire product suite. The result is a comprehensive, end-to-end solution for mitigating risk throughout the lifecycle of email, while offering unprecedented performance, scalability and extensibility.

"Mark's experience in developing globally accepted standards for email will ensure that our solutions have the broadest level of integration, are easy to implement, and offer the lowest overall cost-of-ownership," concluded Pierre Chamberland.
