The Fall Collaborative Communications Summit: Transforming Health Care through Health Information Technology announces that the Avera Health System Chief Information Officer and Director of Telehealth will present a case study that will take place at the fall summit this October 27-28, 2008 at the Sofitel Los Angeles. http://www.ccsexpo.com/fallccs.html
The session entitled "Avera Health - IT and the Greater Vision" will take place Monday October 27th at 10:45am and be presented by Jim Veline, SVP & CIO of Avera Health. The session's co-presenter will be Mary DeVany, Avera Health's Director of Telehealth.
The picture of information technology within Avera Health has been shifting over the past three years from being independent and regionally focused, to having much more of a system-wide approach. The implementation of a system-wide EMR over the past two years has solidified the importance of a unified approach to IT. At Avera, IT is more than just the moving of traditional data. It has also incorporated into the greater vision of telehealth applications. As in most situations, the first 12 years of telehealth services started slowly. However, in the past three years the growth and expansion of various telehealth-related services has been significant. These include the traditional in-patient and out-patient consults, and a wide variety of additional program growth. With programs like eICU® Care and CareVIEW in operation, and additional projects like Tele-Urgent Care. e-Pharmacy and Emergency Telehealth in the implementation phase, combined with the new EMR, these rural communities supported by the Avera Health System have better access to quality health care services close to home.
This presentation will highlight the evolution of IT within the Avera Health System and will include a summary of the issues and difficulties encountered as well as some of the successes and opportunities afforded by this greater vision.
