Ethan was going to be three thousand miles away from his polling place on November 4, and had no clue how to apply for an absentee ballot! And neither did any of his roommates!

The date for an absentee ballot application in some states is October 15, in others its as late as the Wednesday before the election. The ballot itself must be postmarked and received by election day. The time to start on this process is now.
