It is critical that students have a solid administrative knowledge of SharePoint 2007 before attending this course
Nashville, TN (PRWEB) September 22, 2008
SharePoint Solutions, a national leader in Microsoft SharePoint products and technologies training, consulting and add-on software, has authored a new three-day course titled Extranet-the SharePoint Frontier: Collaborating with the Business World.
The course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement SharePoint 2007 as an extranet being used to facilitate collaboration with users inside and outside the organization. During the class, options for deploying an extranet will be presented. In addition, extranet best practices and security will be explored, along with other technologies related to deploying extranets.
Student learning will be facilitated through a combination of instructor presentations and hands-on lab exercises. A sample company will be used in the labs to teach students how to integrate these technologies to deploy an extranet.
The first class will be held Oct. 28-30 in Nashville. The three-day course will rotate through locations in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Nashville and Seattle.
Extranet-the SharePoint Frontier teaches the technical aspect of how to configure a SharePoint extranet and is not intended for information workers who are primarily interested in using a SharePoint extranet. Rather, it is intended for SharePoint server farm administrators and other infrastructure professionals.
"The typical environments that these professionals work in are medium-to-large organizations that desire to use WSS 3.0 or MOSS to extend SharePoint to an extranet deployment," said Jeff Cate, founder and president of SharePoint Solutions.
"It is critical that students have a solid administrative knowledge of SharePoint 2007 before attending this course," he added.
After completing Extranet-the SharePoint Frontier, students will be able to:
- Identify and compare the common options available when deploying a SharePoint extranet.
- Use the Microsoft Extranet Deployment Toolkit to deploy an extranet.
- Discuss the security and infrastructure issues related to deploying SharePoint extranets.
- Utilize the publishing features in MOSS 2007 to build extranet pages.
- Configure an extranet to have anonymous access and authenticated areas.
- Configure an extranet using SharePoint Solutions' Extranet Collaboration Manager product.
The course is divided into six modules: Initial Steps to the Extranet; Extranet Option A - Using Microsoft ISA Server 2006; Option B - Using the Microsoft External Collaboration Toolkit; Option C - Using SharePoint Solution's Extranet Collaboration Manager; After the Hand-off: On-going Extranet Management; and Publishing Features and Office Integration in your Extranet.
Students will receive a comprehensive course manual, which includes all presentation materials and lab exercises. The lab exercises are step-by-step and are fully documented in the student workbook.
Students will be given access to their own SharePoint 2007 environment on the classroom hardware. In essence, they will attend a class where a fully functional SharePoint 2007 environment has been set up for their use in learning the product. No pre-installation of SharePoint 2007 software is required. Each student will need to bring a qualifying laptop to the class.
The $2,195 registration fee includes tuition, hotel room, student materials, hot breakfasts, breaks and lunches. Airfare, ground transportation and dinners are not included in the registration fee.
