SpectorSoft, Tech Giants Tackle Internet Safety at Harvard

SpectorSoft, the worldwide leader in Internet monitoring and surveillance software, joins a host of tech industry powerhouses like AOL, Google, Microsoft, and MySpace in an open meeting of the newly formed Internet Safety Technical Task Force (ISTTF) scheduled for Sept. 23-24 at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School.

Vero Beach, FL (PRWEB) September 23, 2008 -- SpectorSoft Corporation (www.SpectorSoft.com), the worldwide leader in Internet Monitoring and Surveillance Software, announced it has agreed to join forces with the Internet Safety Technical Task Force (ISTTF) and will be a presenting participant in the group's inaugural Open Meeting Tuesday and Wednesday, September 23-24.

The ISTTF was created in February 2008 in accordance with the Joint Statement on Key Principles of Social Networking Safety announced by the Attorneys General Multi-State Working Group on Social Networking and MySpace in January 2008. The event is open to the public and is being hosted by the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

In addition to SpectorSoft, the Task Force includes more than 20 industry-leading businesses, not-for-profit organizations, and technology companies such as AOL, AT&T, Comcast, Google, Microsoft, MySpace, NCMEC, Symantec, Verizon, and Yahoo!.

SpectorSoft is the acknowledged industry leader in the PC and Internet Activity monitoring market space for parents concerned about the safety of their children online. SpectorSoft's best-selling and PC Magazine Editors' Choice award-winning Spector Pro is used worldwide by hundreds of thousands of parents to safeguard their loved ones. Spector Pro's companion product eBlaster provides a remote monitoring feature making the Spector Pro and eBlaster combination a powerful one-two punch against individuals whose intent is to target children unwittingly leaving themselves open to wrongdoing when emailing, chatting, and posting information about themselves, their family, and friends while on social networking sites and other online web sites. In addition, SpectorSoft has a monitoring software product developed specifically for the Macintosh: Spector for Mac OS.

"Our first and perhaps most well-known product, Spector Pro, was based on the premise that the Internet has a dark side and that parents have a well-founded concern about the safety of their children online," said SpectorSoft President C. Douglas Fowler. "When we learned of the opportunity to share our experience in a groundbreaking effort such as the ISTTF, it was an easy decision to join."

The ISTTF is led by Berman Center Executive Director John Palfrey, who said: "The safety concerns posed by the Internet are part and parcel of the safety concerns that arise in human interactions in the physical world. These concerns are not unique to any one service or technology platform; they are shared by the companies that provide Internet services and the individuals who use these services. We should work together - private firms, technologists, experts from the non-profit world, and leaders in government - to solve online safety issues as a joint effort."

SpectorSoft's Director of Product Management, Andrew Tate, is scheduled to present his White Paper: Enforcing Internet Safety for Children with Spector Pro®, eBlaster® and Spector® for Mac OS, on Tuesday, September 23 at 3:50 pm EDT. The White Paper is available in PDF form at: http://www.spectorsoft.com/resources/SpectorSoft_ISTTFTAB_submission.pdf.

For interested parties unable to attend the ISTTF public meetings, a "live" webcast can be accessed at: http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/interactive/webcast.
