Shomi Technologies Announces Release of HD-Quality over Standard Definition Video Processing Technology

New technology provides HD-quality output from Standard Definition DVDs and other video sources and offers potential alternative to Blu-Ray.

Denton, TX (PRWEB) September 21, 2008 -- Don't throw out those old DVDs just yet -- Shomi Technologies announces their latest Video Improvement Technology for Digital Cinema, which can produce HD-quality output from regular DVDs and other video sources while remaining in a Standard Definition, 480i format. This technology could provide a viable alternative to costly Blu-Ray players -- and to the prospect of replacing entire DVD collections with new Blu-Ray discs.

This new technology, termed HD @ SD, was unveiled at the ASIS International Convention in Atlanta September 15-18. Live demonstrations, which included side-by-side comparisons with regular DVD playback, other DVD up-scaling devices, and Blu-Ray discs were given and were the first public demonstrations given.

"We are excited to get this technology out there," said Mark Ford, VP of Operations at Shomi Technologies. "Many companies are releasing products which attempt to improve and enhance the video viewing experience, but no other technology comes close to producing vibrant, clarity of detail images in your picture as our HD @ SD Digital Cinema Video Improvement Processor."

"We don't just sharpen the edges," explains Ford. "We analyze, correct, adjust and improve the video signal 15 ways, addressing everything from image resolution to color corrections and complex light and shadow improvements."

News of Shomi Technologies' new processor comes just weeks after Toshiba released its much-anticipated DVD upconversion product, the Toshiba XDE-500. But unlike the technology used in Toshiba's product, which focuses on Edge, Color and Contrast Enhancement prior to up-converting to 1080i output, the Digital Cinema Video Improvement Processor works on 15 separate areas of video improvement simultaneously, resulting in signal quality which drastically improves color, blacks, whites, contrast, detail, resolution, clarity, flesh tones and more.

Shomi Technologies has also recently announced the release of the Surveillance Video Improvement Processor, a program designed specifically to enhance surveillance footage, and Compaction Technology ™, a lossless video bandwidth reduction technology.

Shomi Technologies offers its HD @ SD Digital Cinema Video Improvement Processor for licensing, custom integration or private label.

Shomi Technologies Corporation operates via entrepreneurial spirit, technological-based understanding, and established leadership qualities with a focus on developing remarkable innovations with guaranteed results.
