New York, NY (PRWEB) September 23, 2008
On Tuesday, October 14, 2008 the ChairScholars Foundation will host "Laughter for Learning" at the world famous Carolines on Broadway comedy club . The funds raised at this third annual evening of comedy support a very serious cause: providing college scholarships to disadvantaged American young people with severe physical disabilities. Donny Deutsch, host of CNBC's the Big Idea, will emcee the event - making this truly a comedy night to remember. The event is scheduled at this NYC comedy club from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm and will feature live comedy performed by Jim David (2008 MAC Award Winner for Best Male Stand-Up in New York, Comedy Central, VH1), Julian McCullough (Comedy Central, Montreal Comedy Festival) and Veronica Mosey (Comedy Central, VH1 and Lifetime). Guests will also enjoy cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and a silent auction at this New York charity event.
"Higher education is the most vital link to economic empowerment and self-sufficiency, yet an astonishing 3 out of every 4 American children with physical disabilities can't afford a post-secondary education due to the monumental financial burden of their disability" states ChairScholars President, Dr. Hugo Keim.
The ChairScholars Foundation was founded in 1992 by Dr. Keim (former Chief of Spinal Surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital) and his wife Alicia Keim. Since its inception the ChairScholars Foundation has awarded 591 scholarships valued at more than $6 million to disadvantaged students with severe physical disabilities. The extraordinary success of this education charity was recognized in PEOPLE Magazine (September 2007). The ChairScholars Foundation is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and has received a 4-star rating for fiscal responsibility from Charity Navigator.
