Norfolk, VA (PRWEB) September 24, 2008
National and international performers -- Todd Hallawell and Robin Kessinger -- will be the featured artists on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 7:00 pm at the Rhodes House Concerts, Norfolk.
"This is a music concert you won't want to miss," according to Mark Rhodes, host of the event. "These two together are pure magic… you'll have trouble sitting still when Hallawell and Kessinger blend their talents and their stories of performing on the road and around the world."
Hosted by Norfolk residents Peggy and Mark Rhodes, this event is open to the public. Advance reservations are required. Admission is a $15 donation for the performers. For tickets and directions to the concert, please call 757 287 2387 or write Mark Rhodes at email@example.com
Hallawell's exceptional musical range has become well known throughout the music world and his compositions have been selected for both film and theatrical presentations. His CDs "Before My Time" and "From Nashville & Back" have won critical acclaim. He is a regular performer at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society (CAAS) in Nashville, as well as other music festivals in the U.S. and abroad. In 1997, he won several awards in a row, most notably the Southwest Regional Fingerstyle Championship in Tucson, Arizona, and the prestigious National Fingerpicking Championship at Winfield, KS.
Kessinger grew up with a rich Appalachian heritage surrounded by generations of musicians. It has always been the music of Appalachia itself that Robin found irresistible. So much so that he has dedicated much of his life to passing on his heritage to others and preserving the music that is so much a part of our American history. As one of the country's leading flat pick guitarists, Kessinger has won the National Flatpicking Championship in Winfield KS as well as the state flatpicking championships in Oh, KY, GA and WV. He has also won "Best of Tri State (OH, KY & WV)" and other contests too numerous to mention. In addition, he has been featured on PBS and BBC television specials and NPR radio shows.
There will be two sets with an intermission. Robin and Todd will be available at intermission and after the concert to autograph CDs and talk about their music.
Preceding the concert, from 10 am to 3 pm, both Kessinger and Hallawell will hold guitar workshops. Lunch will be served. Call 757.287.2387 for details/reservations.
