Greensboro-based Atlantic Webworks today announced that the company is one of just three firms nationwide to receive the prestigious 2008 American Business Ethics Award from the Foundation for Financial Service Professionals.

Atlantic Webworks was chosen as the winner in the Small Business category, defined as companies having 250 employees or less. Other 2008 winners include General Mills, one of the world's leading food companies, and Daisy Brand LP, a mid-sized, family-owned business producing dairy products.

A strategic Web development firm, Atlantic Webworks was honored for its practical approach to putting ethics into action. The company sees itself as a strategic partner of its clients and has strict policies against accepting ill-advised projects simply to make a profit. Established operating policies and billing practices are designed to benefit clients -- even if it means there are occasions when the company must forego revenues. The firm turns down work from competitors of its clients and doesn't mark up fees for printing and other outside services.

The award also recognizes Atlantic Webworks for its ethical employment practices, documented client satisfaction rate and high quality of services rendered.

"In these turbulent times, it is heartening to see there are companies out there who are honestly striving to do right by their stakeholders in ways large and small," said Foundation Chairman Rich Linsday, CLU, ChFC, AEP. "The American Business Ethics Award is designed to shine a spotlight on these efforts in order to provide models for likeminded organizations and to remind the American business community that ethical corporate behavior never goes out of style."

The American Business Ethics Award was created to recognize companies that exemplify high standards of ethical behavior both in their everyday business conduct and in response to specific crises or challenges. An expert panel of judges drawn from the business, academia, public service, media, consulting and ethics communities evaluates entries in four key areas: executive commitment to ethics, ongoing ethics programming, demonstrated ethical business practices and commitment to stakeholders -- including employees, customers and the community.

"We're firmly committed to doing what's right for our clients, staff and community, even when we sacrifice short-term financial gains to do so," said Adrienne Cregar Jandler, president and founder of Atlantic Webworks. "We've found that making these choices has been the foundation for building trust. It keeps our clients coming back and has helped us build a successful business over the long haul."

In December of 2007 Atlantic Webworks received the regional Piedmont Business Ethics Award from the Greensboro chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, which also nominated the company for the national award. The chapter is now accepting nominations for the 2009 Piedmont Business Ethics Award at http://www.PiedmontEthics.com.

Formal presentation of the 2008 American Business Ethics Award is scheduled for November 1 in Las Vegas during the annual meeting of the Society of Financial Service Professionals.
