James Beverly has been awarded the prestigious Parent to Parent Adding Wisdom Award for 2008 in two categories for his recently released book "The Adventures of Seamus the Sheltie". The book was recognized in the Children's Book category and in the Gifts for Children category. These distinguished awards are given to exemplary products that entertain and teach, while inspiring imagination and creativity. The Award Committees are comprised of experts from across the United States who are involved with children on a daily basis. Following committee approval, the product is given or forwarded to Family Testing Groups - real families - for testing, reviewing, and evaluation before final decisions are reached.
"I am absolutely thrilled and honored to receive these awards," said author James Beverly. "It is very humbling to be counted among previous award winners such as Disney and PBS. Being recognized in two separate categories is a special honor."
"The Adventures of Seamus the Sheltie" is a charming children's book about a very intelligent and special dog, Seamus. The illustrated stories teach traditional family values and include a detailed and easy to read parental discussion guide. Seamus brings a new and entertaining context to life lessons that make them fresh and engaging for the readers of all ages. Humor is a key ingredient, and a happy ending to each story underscores the important moral or basic value relevant to each story in this book, setting the stage for wonderful discussions with a child.
Each story comes with a great lesson and the author has provided talking points for each story. After the completion of a chapter, a quick flip to the appendix will give parents a great place to start to discuss the story with their children. The author is a Master's level child psychologist and has over 35 years of experience working with families and children.
Parents who want to have meaningful discussions with their children about family values in a fun and entertaining way should consider this book.

Very cute. I recommend it especially for all young dog lovers. What makes this book a hit are the suggested points for parents to discuss with their children. The stories are not heavy handed at all and appeals to the imaginative reader. Highly recommended.

About James Beverly
James received his Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State University in Detroit and a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Child Psychology from the University of Waterloo in Waterloo Ontario, Canada. He then spent two years in the Medical School at Queen's University in Kingston Ontario where he was involved in research projects involving physically handicapped children.
Since then James has worked in the fields of mental health and developmental disabilities as a therapist and administrator in nine states for over thirty five years. He has been nominated for a variety of state and regional awards for innovative clinical programming. Some of the programs that James developed were recognized and presented at national correctional and mental health conferences.
During his years of service, James worked directly with a wide variety of distressed children and their families. It was in these settings that James became acutely aware of the poor communication that existed in many of the families and the lack of family values that had been instilled in the children. James realized that most of these families were sincerely motivated to teach their children - but lacked the basic training and skills that were necessary. It was these experiences that laid the foundation for James later to author a book for children and their parents that was specifically designed to fill these values and communication gaps in a pleasant and non-threatening manner.
