The foreign tourism has increased as well so the hotels barcelona has been quite busy. This year Catalonia has received 6% more German tourists as last year, even the number of Scandinavian and US tourists increased 15% and 25% respectively. (source: Tourism World Organisation (OMT)).

Vilalta explains that more and more people think that it is necessary to take a holiday. This might be the reason why the Spanish government will adopt an innovative initiative to subsidize senior tourists, between 55 and 75 years old, who never have been travelling outside their countries before. This pilot project will be tested next year.

Chloe San Emeterio at IMS had an interview with the hotel and tourism expert David Zynert to talk about the recent meeting between a representation of the Spanish government and the Commissioner of Economy in Barcelona.

What do you think about the information " 2008 tourism is going to save the crisis" that the secretary of the state declared?

"I think the government is right with this statement. Catalonia is the goldmine of Spain. You can find everything from beach to mountains, city life or rural tourism and of course, a lot of architecture and art. Catalonia is interesting for all ages, young as old. Within the city walls one can breathe art and architectural work mixed with an international atmosphere. You can also find lodging accommodation barcelona at the best location possible."

Talking about the lodging; are the hotels ready for this kind of tourism wave?

"Well, my last field study in Catalonia reveals that the centre barcelona hotels with their comforts and facilities, can offer a wide range of quality services to people from all around the world. There are many hotels to choose between and for a wide range of tastes; rural, beach, city centre, mountain…

The high quality of the Spanish hotel industry attracts people everywhere in the world. Who could say 'no' to holidays in a wonderful hotel in barcelona?
