He further explained that online canvassing monitors and engages the internet for a campaign, organization or brand. "It's very much like traditional canvassing that involves going door-to-door to gauge and influence people's opinions, except we do it online."

Goudiss said he was looking for new ways to generate the same kind of excitement, or "buzz," for Democratic Congressional campaigns online that national campaigns generally enjoy. While talking to friends who worked in online fundraising consulting, he realized that few campaigns and non-profit organizations were even following what was being said about them online. The idea of online canvassing and Vox-P Media came about while experimenting with different methods of tracking and engaging people online.

"Vox-Populi or 'voice of the people' serves as the inspiration for our company. We believe that the voice of the people is best represented today in blogs, forums, social networking, and other yet to be developed applications of the internet," Goudiss said.

And, Goudiss said, the online marketing package can result in increased fundraising, since it reaches a broader audience of potential donors. "Members of the press frequently read blogs and follow people on sites such as Twitter, so do people who are very active in their own communities. If you are not engaging the online community, fewer people will write about you and what your message is," he said.
