Upstairs Solutions LTC, the premier provider in senior care training, and Wound Care 101, LLC (Tinley Park, IL) have collaborated to provide advanced wound care online training for senior facilities.

Cheryl Dillon RNC, BSN, WCC, LNHA, Director of Clinical Education for Upstairs Solutions -- and also a certified wound care nurse -- says, "Upstairs Solutions proactively looks for innovative ways to add value for our senior care clients. Now they can enhance the depth and breadth of wound care expertise on their staff." Dillon adds, "We partnered with Wound Care 101 because they offer the most complete, up-to-date online content developed by certified nurse educators with hands-on wound knowledge."

The nine wound care training modules join over 100 online courses provided by Upstairs Solutions. The wound care modules cover the basics of anatomy and physiology, wound assessment, and more complex treatment techniques for chronic wounds. The modules also provide continuing education contact hours for both nurses and physical therapists. Like Upstairs Solutions' own content, the wound care training is designed to maximize knowledge retention and features robust interactive content and audio specifically designed for online learning.

Janet Kovach RN, BSHA, WCC, CLNC, is Director of Clinical Operations for Wound Care 101. She formed the company with colleague John Ferguson RN, BSHA, WCC after their joint twenty years in wound care education and hands-on experience. Kovach says, "This partnership has provided us access with more senior centers because of the large client base at Upstairs Solutions."

Kovach says she's seeing increased demand for wound care training in anticipation of changes in Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reimbursement for hospital acquired pressure ulcers. "Nursing homes will need to be more diligent in screening for and treating wounds. Advanced wound care isn't taught in schools, so our goal is to reach more clinicians to close the training gap and make a difference in patient care."

Both Dillon and Kovach agree that joining forces has created "the most extensive wound care library available within the elder care elearning space." Dillon says that "Wound Care 101 shares our dedication to improving the quality of life and care of seniors." Kovach adds, "Our passion for providing wound care training is to save more legs from being amputated and ultimately prevent deaths caused by infected wounds."
