Official Statistics Show Watching TV is our Top Activity*: Time To Get Comfortable, Says Sofa Workshop

Research published this week by the Office of National Statistics shows watching TV is the most popular pastime for men and women in the UK.

As the days get shorter and the nights get cooler, it's time to reacquaint yourself with your sofa. A fantastically comfy sofa, with a cosy fire and good company is simply the best place to be when it's minus one outside.

In a survey conducted last year of people over 16 years of age, 84 per cent of men and 85 per cent of women claimed that watching television was their most common leisure activity. Spending time with friends and family rated the second most popular with women seeming more sociable at 82 per cent and men just behind at 75 per cent.

This comes as good news for companies like Sofa Workshop who - despite the current unpredictable economic climate - anticipate increased business fuelled by the need for comfort and relaxation.

"As the days get shorter and the nights get cooler, it's time to reacquaint yourself with your sofa. A fantastically comfy sofa, with a cosy fire and good company is simply the best place to be when it's minus one outside." Paul Staden, Marketing Director at Sofa Workshop said.

Other sofa-related activities also rated highly. Reading, although proportionately more popular amongst women, still sat comfortably at number five; whilst listening to music still managed to beat physical activities such as sport/exercise and DIY, coming in third.

With over 20 years experience, Sofa Workshop knows what it takes to make a truly comfortable sofa that will provide lasting comfort for many winters (and summers) to come. With sofas from £300 to £3000, Sofa Workshop aim to give you the best quality sofa for your budget.
